PPRWRK in the FUTURE!!!

Oh the love we feel, I wanna start this post out with a THANK YOU to everybody that has motivated us along the way. We couldn't have done it without the efforts and acceptance of everybody we've been involved with.

Now onto the future!!! We completed our MainX24 install without a hitch, Strung Like a Horse even finished their set within 7 minutes of the last piece of paper being pasted on the wall. 380 sheets of paper, aka 400+ sq.ft., later we pleased an estimated 500 MainX24 go-ers and worked our way into two amazing articles in the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Our Life section headline article was written by Casey Phillips with photos by Jake Daniels, and the MainX24 article was written by Shelly Bradbury.

Our next few projects in order are with: Tim Hinck and his

Cyclopaedia project (also a 2012 MakeWork Grantee) in February, the Better Block hosted by Glass House Collective in February, and finally Tour de Noog which starts in March. Totalling around 20 new murals by PPRWRK will be seen in Chattanooga by the end of March, and it feels good.http://www.423braggingrights.com/

TDN Logo Ylw.jpg

Starting on Monday, we will be gathering our walls for Tour de Noog. Campaigning on foot to our most desired canvas's across Chattanooga, asking permission for up to 12 walls from Frazier Avenue to Main Street. The first Tour de Noog showcase in March will be photographs from our other project 423BraggingRights, paying homage to a couple handfuls of Chattanooga local musicians. The second Tour de Noog showcase will be of Mary's illustration work, she plans to adorn the same walls with an imaginative and playful journey through Chattanooga, and will release in June/July of 2013.

Currently we are gathering video for an IndieGoGo campaign we plan to launch in the next few weeks to raise the rest of the money we need for our large format printer. I know what you're sayin', "Didn't PPRWRK receive a grant from MakeWork to purchase a printer?". Yes we did, but I was weak on my researching skills putting us under budget by about $6000. Sounds like a made up number doesn't it? Well its not, the printer I budgeted for when researching for the 2012 MakeWork grant process simply would not be able to do what we needed it to do. I quoted for a Canon ImagePrograf, not paying attention to it being ink based which will ALWAYS run and smear, when we needed a large format 'toner' printer. These large format toner printers start at $8000, we initially received $2500 towards the purchase of a printer, leaving us with a $6000 need. For incentives we plan to offer stickers, t-shirts, photo prints, posters, original artwork, mural installs of all kinds, etc. Should be fun.

We'll see ya'll around town soon.

Butterfly Art, Norm Owl, and a healthy serving of the future...

We were recently honored by Normal Park Upper School during NormalPalooza 2012, where we were commissioned to install a 189 sq.ft. owl titled "Norm-Owl", illustrated by Mary. We do plan to paint this beauty, but are becoming more and more strapped for time. If you get a chance to make Norm all colorful, what colors would you choose? Email us with your thoughts.

PPRWRK - NormOwl - 111012
PPRWRK - Butterfly Art - 111612

Then we started our PPRWRK showcase at '', at the corner of Chambliss Street and Spears Avenue in North Chattanooga. The first piece is of Art Webb, or "This is Art'', from Nashville Tn. This piece stands just over 6 feet tall, and about 8 feet wide. We have two more designs approved for install after this one comes down.

Onward to 'Tour de Noog', PPRWRK's next massive project, has been taking up most of my brain power, but what we're gearin' up for, I promise you'll love. Tour de Noog is an 'Art Guided Bike Tour' of downtown Chattanooga Tn. From Frazier Avenue in North Chattanooga, to Main Street on the South Side, we will install 10 to 20 murals paying homage to many of Chattanooga's local musicians. This art ride is designed to promote community wellness, public art, and local music awareness. Keep your ears pealed, we'll have a lot to be seen very soon.

Peace ya'll

Some Roads get Rocky... but we'd prefer IceCream anyday...

It's been an amazing and beautiful journey since Mary Margaret and I started PPRWRK some two years ago. We started with copy paper sized faces, and swiftly branched into our large scale work. Our art has taken us to New York City, Austin TX, Boone NC, and has finally given us a public presence in Chattanooga TN. Since our last blog post we've done an eight piece indoor install at JJ's Bohemia, an indoor install at Good Dog, a Henry David Thoreau portrait during the revitalization efforts at Red Bank High School, and a mural at a private residence.

Within the past month more has happened than we could have expected. WE GOT A MAKEWORK GRANT!!! We updated our outdoor canvas at JJ's Bohemia with a mural of Glowing Bordis, featuring TJ Greever and Danimal Pinson. We installed a 12 foot tall Blue Bird at the corner of Forest Ave and Frazier Ave in North Chatt, and went through the proper channels securing a great relationship with the North Shore Design Review Board.

The MakeWork grant was awarded to fund the purchase of some essential business equipment. We will soon own: a 36" wide large format scroll printer, a brand new pressure washer, a 12'6" telescoping ladder, and an assortment of inks and papers. In exchange for this AMAZING gift, we have been commissioned to paste a mural showcase of local musicians, stretching along an art guided bike tour of Chattanooga. This urban and artful cycling path will start at Frazier Ave in North Chattanooga, and end on Main St on the SouthSide, properly titled "Tour de Noog | Art Ride from the North Side". The first showcase is set for sometime between March and May of 2013, and will have printed maps/information about Tour de Noog for free at a number of downtown businesses. Each showcase is set to last for 30-60 days, all depending on contracts with the city and the building owners.

If you're down with what we're doing, please tell the whole world about us through your social medias outlets... or at least tell your whole world.

Much more coming very soon.

HotDogs... Pie... Swag... Oh My!!!

Having finished our installations at Good Dog, Jj's Bohemia, and Fork & Pie, we here at PPRWRK have recently been concentrating on making PPRWRK swag for you to grace your clothes, shelves, and coffee tables with. We currently have over 30 one inch button designs, 1 sixteen page coloring book, and I still have 10 423BraggingRights | Jj's Bohemia 2010 books left.

If you run into Mary or myself please ask if we have any swag on us, and then of course buy it. Until then, you can drool over the photo's, imagining what you would look like in your very own PPRWRK memorabilia.

10x10 | Day 1 of 10

Made exactly enough paste to install all 4 pieces that went up today, ran out on the last sheet of paper. We started the day pasting a photo of Brian Sylvestor, from Machines Are People Too, on the old North Shore Lunch building, located on Frazier Ave between the Subway and Walnut Street Bridge. We then moved to BrewHaus where we installed a large photo of our own Mary Margaret LaVoie. Finishing the day of pasting with 2 pieces installed at Hair of the Dog Pub, the first is an illustration of a Giraffe designed by Mary for her neices, the second is a photo of Joshua Bennet, of Forest Magic and Dolphin Mouth, doing some maintenance on his guitar.

Future sites for this project do include and are not limited to Jj's Bohemia, the Honest Pint, Chad's Records, and Graffiti Alley. With 9 pieces cut and ready to paste, and 5 printed just waiting to be cut, we have 9 more days of installations til we have hit our mark for this project. Stay connected to maintain mural locations and installation times.

All mural work is 100% family friendly, and will be removed from May 1-7th, so make sure to see them all before you can only see them in photo's...

10x10 Update...

If you haven't heard, PPRWRK has returned to Chattanooga to offer some of our art in conjunction with the 10x10 Showcase during HATCH Chattanooga Arts Week. So far we have recieved sponsorships from The Honest Pint, Hair of the Dog, and Brewhaus, make sure you stop by and check out these amazing establishments when you go on your PPRWRK Mural search. Plus a massive printing donation from IB&M, with which we were able to double our mural count, a huge thank you to IB&M. With a few other sponsorships pending I'm happy to say that in addition to these 3 locations we have also decided to take over Chattanooga's Graffiti Alley (alley entrance close to 9 East 7th Street, Chattanooga), which bumps the mural count to 9 as of right now.

As we paste and post be sure to keep track of what we've put where. All pieces are only guaranteed til the end of April pending a required removal during the first week of May.

Time to get my cut on...

PPRWRK goin' public...

Our current project brings us back to Chattanooga TN for the 10X10 Showcase during HATCH Chattanooga Arts Week. Starting April 16th, we will be putting up a new mural each day, piggy-backing the location of the main events planned, with additional pieces hidden thru-out downtown Chattanooga. Having just left Austin TX where we put up Socket Bunnies while working on an art installation during SXSW, it was invaluable to fall into this project here during our visit.

The designs chosen to be put up will range from photos of Machines are People Too and random Chattanooga locals to the whimsical illustrations by Mary Margaret LaVoie. During the month of April be sure to wall gaze from the riverfront area up to MLK Blvd for the following and many more images.

(All Pieces are Temporary | Removal Scheduled for April 30th)
